Minutes for the meeting held on May 23, 2007

Present:  Dave Martin, Shirley Schofield, Brent Gundlah, Robert Young, Gordon Hughes

1. Reviewed meeting minutes of 4/11/07

DM made note of Billings Tavern location

SS motioned to accept DM 2^nd

RY to change and submit to web and clerk

2. RY Introduced Jerry and Roberta Saphire

- RS spoke about the history of Saphire Manor and the other resort buildings around the lake area

- The Manor was built around 1900 by A. Wentworth  (1898?)

- RY supported them to receive the 2007 Preservation Award

RY/BG proposed holding an event at the manor to promote history and to present award

3. RY brought up a suggestion by Dr. Stern of Pond Street to possibly create a new Historic District

- Rick Stern spoke about preserving more of Sharon (126 Pond Street) homes along and around Pond Street area.

- Help to promote the historic character of the Sharon

- Dr. Stern feels that we (the Town of Sharon) could make “more” of its history.  We could better utilize the schools, historical society etc.

- Feels her home may qualify for a plaque

4.  250^th Anniversary of Sharon

- Committee formed by Town Meeting

o Possible members:  rec director (1), BOS (2), Historical Society (1), School Committee (1), Rec Advisor (1), Police, fire, economic development

- SHS needs to direct this endeavor

5.  RY Town meeting issues

- Unitarian Church backed out of CPC $

- General discussion:  G. Baily convinced David Schofield to pull their request

- Drake cemetary Improvement

- Inventory

6.  Doris Annis Park Dedication

- Sunday @ 4PM

- Historic Commission to take the lead

- Joe Roach to speak

7.  RY – received dues letter for MHS $150

- Decision was made to not renew

8.  Wayman’s Ordinary

- RY spoke about a letter from Rohna Simmons to Mike Intoccia.

- RY forwarded copies to the BOS/Planning Board/ConservationCommission and has hear nothing from any of the various boards to date

- SS – spoke about Dwight Derry’s plan to speak to Mike Intocia

- DM – suggested we get Mike Intocia and the Selectmen to come to the next meeting

9.  Historic Survey (proposed)

- Susan will be project coordinator

- This project will entail meetings during the summer so as to keep up with the requirements

o MHC thinks we can do 130 +/- properties

o MHC wants to provide infor for houses/location

o DM to speak to Ben Puritz about audit form

o RY to put into on listserve, also RFP in the Patriot Ledger

o Ss to help Susan write up a preliminary RFP by June 13^th

10.  Town Clerk, Marlene Chused

- brought in a number of old Town records that need to be preserved

- MC is looking for our support to raise funds to purchase a safe.  Possible grant money, or CPA money
